The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, recently intimated both former and present PDP principal officers of Anambra state House of Assembly over her bid to contest for the November 6 governorship polls, saying that only a winnable candidate can guarantee the party victory.
The meeting which held in Awka at the residence of former deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Keluo Muolokwu had in attendance many former and present state lawmakers.
In his opening remarks, Hon. Sylvester Okeke praised Ekwunife for her A-grade representation. He extolled the Senator for always remembering that there are PDP former and present lawmakers in the state. Hon. Okeke noted that the Lawmakers were delighted to meet with Ekwunife.
Speaking, Ekwunife stated that apart from knowing the challenges facing the state and its solutions that there was a clamour for change. According to her, she has the perfect winning combination to make the desirable change the state needs at this time. She noted that there is season for everything and this is the season for a female Governor in the state as well as someone who also understands the political dynamics of the state.
Speaking further, the Senator said that the most important aspect of the upcoming election is for PDP to field a winnable candidate who can take the party to Agu Awka saying that no matter how fantastic the blueprint is, the party has to win to implement it.
“Someone who uses flight to Lagos and the other who transits on road will not emerge at same time even though there destination is the same” PDP must take the fastest route to Agu Awka which I believe I am”, she said.
Ekwunife noted that she has a sustainable blueprint that will develop all the sectors of governance, simultaneously if elected.
Addressing the gathering, the former deputy Speaker said that Ekwunife’s antecedents speak volumes. Rt. Hon. Muolokwu stated that if primary election was held today that both former and present lawmakers would cast their votes for Ekwunife. He said that Ekwunife has a long history of appreciating and nurturing relationships. He praised her for sustaining and keeping in touch with her colleagues both in federal and state levels. “We cannot say more but we know what we want and we want you, simple”, he said while endorsing Ekwunife.
In his words, Hon. Nsofor Humphrey remarked that he has looked around the state and concluded that the woman whose teeming supporters like to call Iyom is the solution. He said that Ekwunife has all the qualities needed to chart a new course in Anambra state.
Talking on, the former lawmaker said that the era of giving power to people who have no iota of idea about governance has gone. While commending Ekwunife’s giant strides in representation he said that a woman can become the next governor come November 6. He buttressed that gender has nothing to do with governance and as a matter of fact they truly need a change now that men have taken enough slot, and that the change they desire now is changing from man to woman.
Meanwhile, Hon. K. G Enemmuo told the gathering that he has long queued behind the gubernatorial project of Ekwunife. He said that he is supporting the Senator because of her rare personality. Hon. Enemmuo thanked the Senator for honouring the meeting. He also prayed for a successful election in favour of Ekwunife.
