This year’s Catholic Father’s Day nearly passed unnoticed as it coincided with Workers’ Day celebrations across the country. However, some of the parishes in the Archdiocese of Onitsha scrambled some activities which heralded the Father’s Day.At the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity Onitsha, the Chief celebrant of a thanksgiving mass celebrated for the fathers,Rev Father Francis Ojukwu called on fathers to take their family responsibilities seriously since it was a special talent given to them by God.According to him,”your talent is your children, wife and family. You should try to look after them with all you have”.Fr Ojukwu who spoke while delivering a sermon during the mass, urged wives and children to cooperate with their husbands/father’s in running their families.”Dont overdo things to impress your children or to show that you love them more than your husband”,he counselled wives.”The church today calls on fathers to come closer to their families as heads of their families by leadership and then go about other leadership positions.According to him,”this is the time for fathers to review their positions as heads of their families”.In his goodwill message, the President General of Catholic Men Organization (CMO)Sir Evarist Uba,said..”as we thank God for the gift of fatherhood and headship of our families, may we never cease to perform our roles as fathers praying for intercession of St.Joseph the father of Jesus Christ to intercede for all fathers to be firm, strong steadfast and true leaders of our homesWe thank God for the lives of our fathers who have been toiling night and day ,under the sun and in the rain to strengthen and take care of the Church and our familiesAs we Celebrate today ,May we never forget the Challenges facing us as fathers who are the pillars of the Church and the Society at Large. My dear fellow NDI NNA,,2022 UKANNA should be seen and used as a period of Sober reflection in our lives/attitudes, worship of God our creator and a self rediscovery towards repositioning our society that is in the Verge of Decay/Collapse where our youths are taking into worshippping of idols and turning away from the Worship of God,involving in Immortality and drug abuse. This is a time to bring our families together and direct them to Jesus Christ who is the way ,the truth and the life”,he concluded.
