Abacha Community, one of the Communities that make up Idemili North L.G.A Anambra State has elected an Onitsha based business mogul Chief Godwin Nwabunwanne Odiegwu as their new Traditional Ruler to replace their former monarch HRH GBC Mbakwe who was among the three traditional rulers who their certificate of recognition was withdrawn by the Anambra State government recently. The new monarch elect will be known as address as HRH Igwe Godwin Nwabunwanne Odiegwu Ikedim Abacha Leku III once he obtain certificate of recognition from government.
Recall that the community under the aegis of their town union Abacha Development Union (ADU) last year December 31st during the Town annual end of the year meeting held at the town hall Abacha passed a resolution declaring the traditional seat of the community vacant after conducting a confidence vote on the former monarch which saw majority of indigenes rejecting the former ruler on the ground of non performance, violation of custom and tradition as well as unpopularity etc.
Speaking while presiding over the selection amid joy and celebration by the people of the community which was held at Ukwuora Iro Olisa Square the ancestral selection place for all monarchs of the town last weekend, Chief Paul Omofia the traditional Prime Minister (Onowu) of the town thanked God and the Anambra State governor Chief Willie Obiano for bringing peace and harmony in the town and the state in general and urged the new traditional ruler to endeavor to serve the people by pursuing peace and what will unite the town even as he appealed to all citizens of the community to support the traditional ruler for him to excel.
Earlier, Mr. Ifeanyi Okeke Obata the president general of the community while addressing the people on the importance of the event enjoined them to cooperate with the town union executives and the Anambra State government to attract developmental dividends to the community, noting that the community cannot continue to witness vacuum in their traditional ruler institution even as he solicited for support and cooperation for the new traditional ruler.
On their part, Chief Ikemefuna Okoye, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police who is an indigene of the town, Lawrence Achebe and Ambassador Uche Ajulu Okeke a well-known woman activist expressed gratitude to God for giving the community a new traditional ruler and urged the new monarch not to disappoint the people by carrying everybody along as well as pursue peace just as they called the Anambra State government to give their new ruler maximum co-operation for him to succeed.
The event which was marked with joy, pomp and pageantries saw the display of various colorful masquerades, with women and youths of the community stealing the stage to render melodious tunes to charge up the tempo of the ceremony.
