In its renewed efforts to establish sanity in the building sector, the Anambra State government task force has demolished a two-storey building in Okpoko in Ogbaru Local Government Area, our correspondent reports. The weak-looking building, which hitherto sat on the Sakamori drainage, had become a nightmare for the residents around the area.Similarly, some structures at the Okpoko Abbatoir Market are among the illegal structures brought down by the task force.Speaking in an interview, a member of the task force, Barrister Chike Maduekwe, explained that government is not out to witch-hunt anybody, pointing out that the governor promised to build a livable state that cannot be a reality if people block the drainages. He also stated that with continuous rain, most of the places become flooded, creating hardship and suffering for residents. He noted that government exists to secure the welfare and security of its citizens, saying that, for posterity’s sake, Ndi Anambra should listen to the voice of reason as government is embarking on the exercise for the benefit of unborn children.Barrister Maduekwe regretted that so much impunity and recklessness has happened in the past, and he  expressed Governor Soludo’s commitment to opening up the Sakamori-Nwangene drainage. He also recalled that government lost a lot of revenue to neighbouring cities as a result of the unplanned nature of the city, stating that government is working hard to ensure that the right thing is done. Some of the residents who spoke to newsmen described government’s intervention as timely.
