The leading aspirant under the platform of PDP, Uche Ekwunife, has stated that recent appointment of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala as DG of World Trade Organization (WTO), should be a huge source of encouragement for women who are inspiring to make contributions for the development of the society, noting that Anambra is due for an elected female governor. Ekwunife said that even though there are good administrators in both genders that the upcoming gubernatorial election is a season to elect a female governor.
Ekwunife, who made this known on Monday, March 8, 2021, while addressing PDP Njikoka LGA delegates at Nawfia community said that objectivity should reign supreme in nominating a candidate for the party. The Igbo-Ukwu born Senator told delegates that election is won when the right political arithmetic is employed.
Talking on, Ekwunife restated that irrespective of gender she is the most experienced amongst the pool of aspirants in the race to succeed the incumbent government. Ekwunife paid special tribute to all women in commemoration of International Women’s day, reminding them that political positions like “Office of the women leader” was created to both close the gender gap and chant the course of women in the society. She reassured that she will do excellently well if given the mandate to serve as a governor.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman PDP Njikoka LGA, Mr. Hyginus Anaeto welcomed Ekwunife and lauded her for being an A-grade Senator. He noted that the Senator has what it takes to become the next governor. According to him, all the political positions Ekwunife has held she performed wonderfully well.
On his part, the former Reps member of Dunukofia/Njikoka/Anaocha Federal Constituency, Hon. George Ozodinaobi(Aja-aja Nze) re-echoed that though all the aspirants in PDP are qualified, however, that Ekwunife is the most qualified for the tough task ahead. He said that he stands firmly in support of the Senator’s guber ambition.
Recalling how the LGA gave him and HE Peter Obi tremendous support in 2003, the former lawmaker urged delegates to replicate same for the Chairman Senate Committee on Science and Technology on the day of primary election. Hon. Ozodinaobi said that he returned back to PDP because of Ekwunife and HE Peter Obi.
In his remarks, the party state officer, Mr. Isaac Ebubudike Nwafor praised Ekwunife’s achievements on the floor of the senate. He said that the LGA has been supporting the Senator’s political aspirations because of her track records. Mr. Nwafor noted that Ekwunife is a tested and trusted politician, while praying God to crown her efforts with success.
In same vein, Chief Onyekachukwu Okeluo, Sir Chris Okoye and other stakeholders spoke in support of the Senator. They said that Ekwunife is representing the zone very well and deserve all the support from the delegates in the LGA. No single vote from Njikoka LGA delegates should be lost on the day of primary election, they agreed.
