Onitsha, Sept. 24, 2021(MOI) Anambra State Commissioner for Works Mr Marcel Ifejiofor says Anambra State Government will liaise with relevant Federal Government agencies for prompt refurbishment of the failed portion of the Onitsha-Owerri road.
Mr Marcel Ifejiofor, an engineer, announced this during a joint inspection of the portion by the Federal Comptroller of Works, Anambra state, Zonal and State Directors of Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA).
Others are the Anambra State Ministry of Works, Anambra State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission and the Nigerian Police.
The works commissioner said the hardship being experienced by motorists were regrettable, urging road users to be patient as the work would be completed in record time.
Marcel hailed the prompt response from both the FG and state Government.
He, however, cautioned residents in the habit of dumping refuse inside drainages to stop forthwith as the devastation was enormous.
The State Controller of Works, Mr Ayeni Adeyemi, an engineer, said the FG engaged the services of Julius Berger Construction Company to put the road back to use.
Mr Adeyemi added that over the next few days, the road would be put back in shape.
He said that the cutting of the road was as a result of blockage of natural flood channels with buildings and other human activities, which led to washing off of the earth underneath.
The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, Mr Ade Irelewuyi said that the command was on top of the situation in diverting and controlling traffic on the road to avoid casualty.
He assured that his men would be on ground until the road would have been fixed. (MOI)
