The Anambra State Commissioner for Public Utilities Engr Emeka Ezenwanne has earned a meritorious award from the Licences Electrical Contractors of Nigeria(LECAN).
The award was bestowed on him recently by the National President of the association, Chief Dr John Ekere Etim who led a powerful team of national and state officers of the association to bestow the award on Commissioner Ezenwanne.
In a brief and impressive ceremony,the LECAN National President expressed gratitude to God for saving the life of the commissioner from gun men who abducted him recently.
While eulogising the commissioner, Chief Etim said,”the Hon Commissioner cannot less be described as a man who exemplifies the core value of integrity,fostering high ethical standards, and promoting recognition with respect for all occupations which should be useful in improving the quality of life in Anambra State”.
Explaining the duties and responsibilities of LECAN in the country,Chief Ekere Etim listed out some of the duties and responsibilities of the association pointing out among others that;
“LECAN is licensed to handle the execution of all manner of electrical installations works under the supervision of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency empowered by law, the NEMSA Act 2015, and through the Nigerian Electricity Supply and Installation Standards (NESIS) Regulations 2015.
Our vision and mission; To make sure that ELECTRICITY IS IN SAFE HANDS. Sir, LECAN members being the authentic electrical installation works in Nigeria, promotes electrical engineering services through professionalism.
LECAN in her wisdom, organizes bilateral and multilateral seminars/conferences to train and retrain her members by issuing certificates to various categories of professionalism in tandem with modern day technological advancement in electric and electrical applications.
LECAN’s vision is to ensure proper and rational supply and consumption of power in the country but in achieving this, we appeal to the government to always engage licensed electrical contractors in its contract awards.
However, LECAN Enugu zone has challenges which includes; lack of vehicles for operation, office accommodation and government patronage. We would like to see the opportunity to appeal to the government through your good offices for assistance. This will help us to check and discourage quackery in the electricity supply sector and the use of substandard/inferior materials/products in the execution of contract in the State”.
In his remarks, the commissioner expressed his appreciation to members of LECAN for bestowing the award on him.
According to him,the Anambra State Government would be glad to partner with an outstanding professional association such as LECAN to ensure that quality standards are met in electrical installations and that electricity is actually in safe hands.
He commended the National President of LECAN Chief Dr Ekere Etim for his vision,professionalism and steadfastness in piloting the affairs of the association.
Later in a remark,the spokesman of the association in Enugu Zone Mr Bolas Enemosah expressed joy on the successful outing with Commissioner Ezenwanne who he described as a sincere and vibrant gentleman.
Mr Bolas on behalf of the members of the Enugu zonal association of LECAN thanked the National President Dr Ekere Etim for making out time to travel from a far distance to bestow the award on the Hon. Commissioner in spite of the many uncertainties and insecurity on the road.
