Members of Anambra Progressives Development Union ( APDU) penultimate Saturday commissioned and donated a specialist hospital to Anambra for provision of quality health care to the residents of the state.
The Specialist hospital located at the permanent site of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi, was named Anambra Progressives Medical Center.
The ceremony attracted the presence of timbers and calibers of our society including the Senate president Sen. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, Sen. Patrick Ifeanyi Uba, HRH Igwe Kenneth O.N Orizu, Chief Dr Cletus Ibeto, among others.
The convener of the APDU Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah in a speech shortly before the official commissioning disclosed that the union was established to foster development in Anambra state, explaining that the era of waiting on government alone to develop the state is gone.
According to him, APDU is made up of Anambrarians who came together and decided willingly to pull their resources together for the development of the state, revealing that constructing and equipping the medical center in Anambra South senatorial district was collectively funded by the members of the union. He made it clear that similar medical centres will be built in Anambra North and central senatorial districts to reflect oneness and as well to bring quality health care closer to Anambrarians.
He disclosed that work is on going at another site located at Nnamdi Azikiwe University ( Unizik) Awka for the people of Anambra central, adding that the construction of Anambra progressive medical center for Anambra North located at Nwafor Orizu college of Education will soon commence once the necessary approval for the site is gotten.
Senator Yahaya Ibrahim Oliriegbe who represented the Senate president in a speech poured encomiums on the union, describing the centre as a wonderful humanitarian project that stands to save lives. He charged Anambra State government to quickly build the road leading to the medical centre.
Chief Ibeto who is also a member of the union in his address commended his fellow members for donating generously, urging them not to relent as more projects are on the way for the good of the state. He revealed that the union membership register is still open, calling on well- to- do Anambrarians to join the moving train to make Anambra better. In a special way he thanked Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah for his initiative that made the existence of the union a reality.
