The Archbishop of Onitsha and Metropolitan of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, most Rev Valerian Okeke last Thursday charged staff of the Archdiocesan Secretariat to always imbibe selflessness and humility if they must achieve a common purpose while discharging their duties.
The Archbishop spoke while delivering a sermon at the old Basilica church building where he celebrated monthly mass for priests and lay faithful working at the Onitsha Archdiocesan Secretariat.
Citing biblical instances, the Archbishop pointed out how Apostles of Jesus Christ, Simon Peter and Simon the Zealot though from different backgrounds, were able to work together with humility and achieved success.
The Archbishop told the workers that the Archdiocesan Secretariat is the steering organ of the Archdiocese adding that, “if we work with selfishness, we will hardly achieve anything but if we embrace selflessness, the better for all”.
According to him, people want to be relevant but they do it the wrong way.He also charged them to be good role models.
“If you want relevance that will outlive you, be good to those around you. And with faith, we can achieve the unachievable”, the Archbishop said.
In his remarks, the Chancellor of the Archdiocese Rev Fr Dr Prudentius Aroh, commended members of the Secretariat Choir for their improved rendition.
The Chancellor rolled out prizes for various staff of the Secretariat to encourage them in their duties.
The highlight on the ocassion was cutting of the birthday cake by celebrants whose birthday fell between July and October, which the Archbishop joined.
It would be recalled that the Archbishop celebrated his 68th birthday on October 20,2021.
Other officials at the mass include, the Onitsha Archdiocesan CWO Director General,Dame Ngozi Nwanosike,Confidential Secretary to the Archbishop Sir Sam Obidile and a host of others.
