The Chief Shepherd of Onitsha Archdiocese His Grace Most Rev. Valerian Okeke last Sunday, November 21, 2021 commended the manager/ principal and the management of Christ de King College Onitsha for maintaining academic and moral statuesque that are currently standing the school out as one of the best in Nigeria and beyond.
The prelate who is also the proprietor of the school poured out the accolades while making a speech during his pastoral visit to the College to mark the feast of Christ De King.
He expessed joy and satisfaction over the beauty of the school, positing that the college has fully returned to her former glory. According to him, CKC is currently on course, stating that the school is gradually reaching the promise land.
He further urged the students to remain focused and determined, stating that he want everyone of them to graduate with 9 As or aleast 8As so as to always replicate and surpass the past academic records of the school, urging the college not to relent in adding feathers to their academic prowess so that very soon, other schools will be coming for an excursion to CKC to learn how giant strides in academics and morals could be achieved.
The Archbishop in his usual magnanimity awarded scholarship to two JSS students names Primus Ugochukwu Desmond and Primus Nweze Jude who presented a welcome address off head.
In the said address, the College poured encomiums on the Archbishop for visiting them, remarking that his usual love and support to the school is legendary and the gains are beginning to show. The College noted that there has been a tremendous progress in the discipline and academics of the students as evidenced in public school competitions and examinations. Some of the competitions the College emerged first positions in the recent time as mentioned include STAN project Exhibition 2020, Dr Chinedu Umeadi Science Competition 2020, South Eastern region National Physics Competition 2021. The College via the address also disclosed that within this year, many classes were renovated and tiled wall- to wall, beautifully painted and furnished with customized class room furniture.
In his remarks, the principal Rev Fr. Dr. Celestine Arinze Okafor extolled the Archbishop for his encouragement and support to the College, asserting that no other Bishop in Nigeria labours so hard to visit his mission schools the way Archbishop Val does, stating that by that singuler act, he has continued to maintain and sustain the legacy of the early missionaries that invested so much in education. He revealed that one of the current missions of the College is to inculcate in the students the culture of love; that they may show love to one another for the common good. He disclosed that the school compound which has been turned into a conducive outmostpher for learning is a ripple effect of what the Archbishop taught them in the senior seminary.
He thanked the 1977 set ( old boys) of the school for donating statues of Christ De Kind and that of the former principal of the College Late Nicholas Tagbuo that now adorned the compound. The principal while appreciating other old students of the College, parents and friends of the school, enjoined them to assist in completing the school chapel under construction, adding that no amount of contribution is too small.
The PTD Chairman of the College Barr. Olisaemeka Belonwu who spoke to the expressed satisfaction over the quality education the College is impacting on the students, testifying that the school is growing by leaps and bounds. According to him, every day at the school there is an improvement academically, morally and physically. He commended the principal Fr Okafor for taking the College to unprecedented height.
Earlier in the Holy Mass that kick-started the event, Archbishop Val charged the people of God to always stand on the truth, so that they can be part of the kingdom of truth and love which Christ esterblished. He explained that whenever we are motivated by love and truth, we will remain indestructible. The Archbishop made it clear that those who are practicing backbiting and those who are ever ready to commit anything ( crime) because of attachment to material things are not good followers of Christ.
High points of the event are unveiling of the statues of Christ De King, Late Fr Tagbuo and the commissioning of the beautiful park at the College.
Meanwhile, over 50 students received the sacrament of confirmation during the Holy Mass.
