The Chief Shepherd of Onitsha Archdiocese His Grace Most Rev Val. Okeke on Friday, December 17th, 2021, paid pastoral visit to St Charles Specialist Hospital Onitsha.
The event witnessed the blessing and commissioning of the state of arts funeral home ( mortuary ) built at the hospital premises.
In his Homily at the Holy Mass that kick-started the occasion, Archbishop Val explained the importance of giving and showing gratitude, stating that gratitude not expressed is not real.
He commended the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital CEO) and the staff for their tireless efforts in saving lives, describing their job as work of mercy which cannot be quantify in words or money.
The CEO of the hospital Fr Izunna Okonkwo in his remarks shortly after the Mass, rained accolades on the Archbishop who is also the proprietor if the hospital, describing him as a prelate who loves quality health care provision. Describing St Charles Borromeo as the biggest private hospital in West African sub – region, he disclosed that the hospital has excelled in provision of affordable quality health care services to people, revealing that just this year the hospital lost over five million naira from dialysis section because patients couldn’t pay the required amount for such treatment yet they were attended to.
High point of the event was commissioning of the new funeral home.
The hospital also appreciated the extra ordinary outstanding staff of the year name Ngozi Bernice Nwosu(Medical Lab. Scientist). Staff who retired this year including Lady Cordis Mario Nwokolo( Head Nursing services), John Mba( Nurse Anaesthetist) and Rebecca Nnakwue( Nursing Unit) were appreciated with gifts and money. Other staff including Nwanyanwu Bailia, Oradiegwu Gloria, Ekpemogu Nkiruka, Okolo Irene and Offiah Azuka who marked their 25years of serving at the hospital were also rewarded greatly.
