Mass Communications practitioners under the aegis of Catholic Association of Media Practitioners of Nigeria (CAMPAN)on Sunday ended this year’s World Communications Week with a thanksgiving masses across the parishes in the Archdiocese.
Theme of this year’s event is”Listening With the Ear of the Heart”.
Dominating this year’s lectures over other aspects of mass Communications is a wider scope of the necessity,importance and application of ICT as important arm of Communications.
Various Speakers namely, renowned economist Prof Pat Utomi,the Managing Director,Anambra IT Agency,Engr Fred Chukwuemeka Agbata (FCA),Sir Victor Okoli,Rev Sr Ezeogu,Rev Canon Sunday Afolayan and other communications experts.
Earlier in his introductory lecture,Professor Pat Utomi pointed out that the reason why many nations go to eat is lack of communication.
According to him,the most important aspect of communication is the ability to listen and to seek first to understand before being understood.
According to Prof Utomi,”the power of listening should not be downplayed just as the key to leadership is ability to listen”,he said.
Professor Utomi also counselled leaders saying,”if you want to be effective in life,learn to listen so you can understand what’s happening around you”.
In his contribution,the Managing Director,Anambra IT Agency Engr Fred Chukwuemeka Agbata also known as FCA,said his agency and indeed the Anambra state government under Prof Chukwuna Soludo had plans to use IT to drive change in the state.
According to him, Professor Soludo wants to see a new Anambra where communications and interaction is easy through community communications.
Engr Agbata pointed out that Anambra is so rich that it is rated to have one billionaire per capita such that investment in technology gives opportunity of access to information,saved time,ease of mobility and many other benefits.
Among other of his contributions,the Onitsha Archdiocesan Director of Social Communications,Rev Fr Dr George Adimike revealed that discussions were on to establish a Digital Academy in the Archdiocese.
He expressed gratitude to the resource persons, priests, students,individuals and groups who attended the 2 day event.
Onitsha comedian Igwe White entertained the participants.
