The Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha has warned the faithful to be wary of the activities and teachings of one Rev Fr Magnus Ebere (SDV) of Canaanland Adoration Ministry, Nnobi, Anambra state, whose activities and teachings it described as “dangerous, deceitful and inimical to their faith”.
In a statement issued on February 18 which was signed by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev Valerian Okeke, the Archdiocese condemned in its entirety,a viral video where Rev Fr Ebere in a comment, made unsavoury tribal remarks insinuating that ” if you remove Igbos in Catholic church in Lagos, there will be no church there”. The statement frowned at Fr Ebere’s remarks which connoted unwarranted tribal sentiments and segregation among the people of God, pointing out that it worsened and aggravated the recent statement of a priest of Archdiocese of Lagos Rev Fr James Anelu who made an unjustified outburst accusing Igbos of wanting to dominate others wherever they are.
The statement also pointed out that Rev Fr Ebere is not a priest of Onitsha Archdiocese and that he does not possess the requisite faculties to operate around or withing the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha since his ministry is illegal.
The statement further described Fr Ebere as one who needs psychological help from his congregation and for the avoidance of doubt, was not speaking for the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha.
” We once again warn the faithful of our Archdiocese that the activities and teachings of Fr Magnus Ebere are dangerous, deceitful and inimical to their faith.
Anyone who participates in his illegal activities at Nnobi does so at his or her risk”, the statement warns.
