Report reaching our Newsroom allege that the recent election of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Anambra State Chapter held on 18th March,2021 has been received with mixed feelings and bickering by many stakeholders alleging fraud.
Reacting on the development, some stakeholders on the aegis of Concerned Christian Association of Nigeria in Anambra who after witnessing the sy and manner the election was conducted described it as unconstitutional, illegal and grossly manipulated to favour a particular bloc.
According to a petition signed by one Dr Mrs Judith Uche Emmanuel on behalf of the group, it was alleged that the election was conducted with an old Constitution which had expired and that it was allegedly sponsored by one of the governorship aspirants in the state to fight against CSN’s assumed political domination in Anambra State.
They claimed that the national office of His Eminence Rev Dr Sampson Olasupo was not represented to monitor the election. They further noted that by the new Constitution of CAN,it strips off the zonal office of CAN the power to organize and conduct elections in the state.
The zonal retired officers were however said to have conducted elections which enthroned one venerable Joseph Nweke as the new chairman of CCN bloc.
Our correspondent reported that the former chairman Rev Ndubuisi was removed unconstitutionally by an illegal electoral college to suit their purpose.
They also observed that their was no letter of authority from national office mandating them to organize and conduct the election even as they stated their tenure had expired.
Reacting on the development, the immediate past state chairman of CAN Re NDUBISI John said he was satisfied with the election.
When reminded that the former Constitution of CAN was used in the conduct of election instead of the present one,he said that people were complaining based on their understanding of the situation.
He claimed he was a child of God and wanted peace to reign and always looking for a way forward but added that those complaining were not wrong.
Also reminded that it was the turn of Catholics to produce the next state chairman, he said they have the right to protest but cautioned that church being an advocate of peace would not allow crisis to truncate the inauguration even in the Nigeria worsening crisis.
The National President could not be reached as at press time, according to our correspondent.
