An Address presented by the President, Nigeria Conference of Women Religious (NCWR) Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province and President Awka Area, Sr. Mary Noeleen Obi, IHM, on the Occasion of the Biennial Provincial Day Celebration April 28-May 1 2022 at Archbishop A.K. Obiefuna Retreat and Pastoral Centre, Okpuno, Anambra State.
Theme: Synodality: Communion, Participation and Mission, She welcomed the religious women that were present at the occasion. She explained that the Synod was an opportunity for them to discuss the common problems they encounter in their different dioceses in their Province. She described that, according to the Holy Father, Pope Francis, it was “a call for journeying together, listening to one another and together to the Holy Spirit”.She highlighted the contemporary issues unique to the Province such as the insecurity, the killings, the Academic Union of Universities (ASUU) strike, and the youths’ neo-paganism. She expressed gratitude to all those that had contributed to the success of the celebration which included the Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most. Rev. Paulinus C. Ezeokafor, and other bishops: Most. Rev. Peter E. Okpaleke, Most. Rev. Jonas Benson Okoye, and Most. Rev. Denis Isizoh. She also appreciated the NCWR Executives, the priests of Awka Diocese, the staff of Archbishop A.K. Obiefuna Retreat and Pastoral Centre, Okpuno, amongst others. She ended her address by asking for the Lord’s guidance as they deliberated on the agenda, and by urging the religious women to “continue to glorify the Risen Christ”.
