Archdiocese of Onitsha last Saturday, March 19th, 2022 joined the mother church in ending the year of St Joseph declared by Pope Francis a year ago.
The closing ceremony took place in six regions that made up of the Archdiocese.
In a concelebrated Holy Mass presided over by the Chief Shepherd of Onitsha Archdiocese His Grace Most Rev Valerian Okeke at St Joseph’s Seminary, Special Science School, Awka Etiti ( the venue for Nnobi Region), the Homilist Very Rev Fr. Prudentus Aroh ( Chancellor) called on Christians to consecrate their lives to God through St Joseph.
According to him, St Joseph is the saint we can run to for divine security and protection, especially now insecurity is posing great threat to our existence in Nigeria and in other parts of the world. He reminded faithful that St Joseph was the man God entrusted His only begotten son Jesus to protect and guide at his tender age.
He expressed worry that some Christians are loosing their faith over material and worldly things and has resorted to jumping from one church to the other in search of miracles, whereas same problem can be solved by God if only we believe in His words like St Joseph did.
The Chancellor further enjoined faithful to imitate St Joseph by embracing life of purity, chastity and humility for us to become better Christians and light to the world. He attributed the high rate of crimes to lousiness among the youths, yet they wanted to become rich by all means, advising that all must work like Jesus in order to earn living.
High point of the event was granting of plenary indulgence to faithful by the Archbishop.
