In spite of the covid19 index case recorded in Anambra state, the Speaker of the state assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Victor Okafor, has said there is no cause for alarm because he believes that the state government is fully charged to fight the virus to a standstill.
The Speaker who is a member of the Anambra State Covid19 Prevention Committee stated this during an exclusive interview with our correspondent.
Rt. Hon. Okafor said that although Coronavirus has wriggled itself into the State, there was no need to panic because the State government has been on uninterrupted vigilance, following the establishment and equipping of quarantine facilities in the event of any outbreak.
Said he: “Governor Obiano has assured Ndi-Anambra that there is no problem. Even before the virus came into Anambra State, the State was well prepared and because of what the Governor did through the covid19 prevention committee, that was why we were able to contain the virus from entering Anambra State.
“This one case is not something bad. The only thing we are going to do is to intensify our efforts to make sure that the virus does not spread around Anambra State.
“The Governor has advised that all the preventive measures in the State should be streghtened like constant and frequent washing of hands, avoidance of unnecessary movements and others,” the Speaker stated.
According to him, the lockdown in the State has been intensified such that there would be absolute restrictions on movements from Easter Monday and the drug markets in Onitsha would also be shut down permanently, pointing out that those allowed to operate skeletally were food sellers.
Rt. Hon. Okafor who represents Ayamelum State constituency, noted that all social gatherings in the State have been stopped Indefinitely to enable governnent to do everything it can to prevent more cases of the viral infection.
The Speaker said that Governor Willie Obiano has enjoined the citizenry to celebrate their Easter without fear of anything but ensure that they stay at home, avoid gatherings of any kind as well as observe simple personal hygiene to prevent the spread of coronavirus in Anambra State.
