The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, has reinforced her commitment towards building an era of working housewives – a situation where women are supported to engage in gainful economic activities that will assist them in supporting their families without neglecting their roles and obligations at home.
Ekwunife made this known while speaking to press recently, following her tour of inspection at Nkwo market where she facilitated construction of market stalls. Ekwunife stated that she considered women empowerment an important enabler to societal growth and development and would therefore initiate projects and programmes focused on empowering women and youths.
Ekwunife who is a leading governorship aspirant for the November 6 election, said that her government would be anchored on transparent service delivery eschew of kickbacks, diversion of developmental resources and unfair provision of services.
Meanwhile, the Chairman Senate Committee on Science and Technology in her usual manner and in accordance with her great respect for traditional institution first made a stop at the palace of the traditional ruler, HRM Igwe Ralph Ekpeh of Enugwu-Ukwu where she paid homage.
While at the market, all the women expressed their appreciations to Ekwunife for the quality representation being felt across the state. They danced and bang the drum in support of the Senator’s gubernatorial aspiration.
Commending, the Secretary of Nkwo market, Enugwu-Ukwu, Mrs. Justina Ibekwe praised Ekwunife for both the project and other ongoing projects in the zone. She said that it was only the woman better known as Iyom that had remembered the market women in the community and that they would support her to become the next governor of the state.
Recalling their interaction with Ekwunife, Mrs. Ibekwe said that out of empathy that the performing Senator sometime in the past approached the market women and enquired what their challenges were. The women who had no shelter and sell under the scorching sun pleaded with Ekwunife to construct stalls, hence the reason for the project. The market leader prayed God to bless and continue to politically uplift Ekwunife.
