It was an emotional affair last Tuesday at the Anambra State House of Assembly as the lawmakers held a valedictory session in honour of their late member, Hon. Okechukwu Okoye, who was killed and beheaded by unknown people in May this year.

The valedictory session for Hon. Okechukwu had in attendance the Anambra State deputy governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, representing Governor Chukwuma Soludo; Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, Anambra State Chief Judge; and Mr Pius Udoh, former clerk of the state assembly, among others.

Presiding over the session, Rt Hon. Uche Victor Okafor, speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, described their departed colleague as a committed legislator who was in tune with the business of the house. He consoled the deceased’s family members and his constituents.

Also, Hon. Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo, member representing Onitsha North II state constituency, said the late lawmaker was unjustly killed and took out time to condole with the immediate family of the deceased lawmaker, the people of Aguata LGA and the state in general, urging all to bear the loss.

In his vote of thanks, the brother of the deceased, Brother Okechukwu, thanked the state assembly for the valedictory session while asking for justice for his late brother from the state government.
