Three persons died at the weekend, while one was injured in an accident at Nkpor in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The accident, which occurred on Mercedes Avenue, by Omor Street, Mgbuka, involved a trailer and two tricycles.
Our correspondent gathered that the trailer conveying a container lost control and knocked down two tricycles, leaving two passengers dead and injuring one.
Confirming the incident, police spokesman, Mr. Haruna Mohammed said Commissioner John Abang had ordered a discreet investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Said he: “A Mack trailer conveying a container registered as XS 254 ENU, driven by Amuche Chinedu, male of Ugwunagbo Local Government Area of Abia State lost control and knocked down two tricycles marked AAH 774 UW and AWK 191 QN, ridden by Sunday Agbafor male, aged 35 of Onuofia Igboeze in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State and Adidu Uchenna, male, aged 39 of Ugwunagbo Local Government Area of Abia State.
“As a result, the trailer with the container fell into a deep erosion pit, while the tricycle operators together with the conductor of the truck, Chika (surname and address unknown), died on the spot.
“Police patrol team led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogidi Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Mark Ijarafu, visited the scene. The bodies were removed and deposited at Iyienu Hospital morgue, Ogidi. The obstruction was cleared to enable free flow of traffic.
“The truck driver sustained injuries and he is receiving treatment in hospital.
“Police Commissioner John Abang commiserates with the bereaved families.”
