It was pomp and pageantry as Rev. Fr. Michael Tochukwu Chika celebrated his ten years of Priesthood with his various parishioners, relatives, friends and well wishers recently at St. Augustine of Hippo Catholic Parish Amafor, Nkpor, Anambra State.

Fr. Chika an indigene of Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State said that although it has not been rosy since he answered the Divine call which has taken him to several missionary works both outside and within the country but maintained that he has every reason to be grateful to God’s grace and faithfulness in his life.

He also urged Umunya community to shun every form of crisis, embrace God, peace and dialogue adding that violence and dissention does not foster progress in any community.

“Today is a special thanksgiving celebration to God.For the past ten years of being a priest God has been blessing, protecting and showering me with good health. It is very challenging to be a priest outside your country and culture but I thank God who has been seeing me through expecially the time I went for mission.

“My message to Umunya community is peace. Let God give Umunya peace. Power is from God. Any opportunity to serve, do it with the fear of God.One with God is with majority. Let us stop violence and enmity and embrace God this year”, said Fr. Chika.

Moreover, High Chief Augustine Odugwe, Onwa 1 of Umunya who described Fr. Chika as an energetic and hard working young priest wished him accelerated promotion in his priesthood.

His words : “Fr. Chika is my brother. Four of us bought him a car gift during his ordination. When he was at Cameroun for missionary work we gave scholarships to some children at those remote locations. I wish to celebrate him as a monsignor or Archbishop in the future.

“I wish that Umunya community will welcome good counsels for peace and progress to reign. I have established, empowered some people economically, I hope that those I established will look out for other people to empower. That is progress so that one would be remembered after he has lived on earth”, said Chief Odugwe.

Engr. Valentine Oguama and Dr Emmanuel Azuike , who spoke to the press also wished Fr. Chika good health and long life and pray that after devoting his life to serve God he would not miss heaven”.

Moreover, Igwe James Ukekwe, Igwe Ochendo IX Ezenwata1 of St Theresa Parish Umunya, Omenajilija prayed that God will endow the celebrant with more wisdom, anointing and Grace to shepherd His flock

Special guests include his mother, Mrs. Augustina Chika, Igwe Sir Kris Chinedu Onyekwuluje, Nya of Umunya, Rev Fr. Emmanuel Obimma (Ebube Muonso), Provost, Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Dr. Mrs Ify Osegbo.
