Hearty Cheers As Archbishop Valerian Okeke Clocks 41 Years Of Priesthood

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha,most Rev Valerian Maduka Okeke has clocked 41 years of priesthood.
His service in the vineyard of the Lord brought with it many good spiritual and material benefits to the faithful.
Archbishop Valerian Okeke is celebrating a low key anniversary this year in line with the mood of the nation.
With the wanton killings and violence across the land,the Archbishop has been calling for prayers and peace and for those behind blood letting, destruction of lives and property to have a re-think.
Archbishop Valerian Okeke’s journey into priesthood began July 11,1981 when he was ordained a priest of Onitsha Archdiocese by His Eminence Francis Cardinal Arinze at the Holy Trinity Cathedral (now Basilica),Onitsha.
On November 28,2001,he was appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Onitsha and consecrated Coadjutor Archbishop of Onitsha on February 09,2002.
He became Archbishop and Metropolitan of Onitsha on September 01,2003.
He is a member of the Catholic Bishop’s Conference (CBCN).
Beyond his ordination story, Archbishop Valerian Okeke has set his footsteps on the sand of time with numerous projects not only in Onitsha but within the areas of his coverage under Onitsha province.
In Onitsha Archdiocese particularly,what used to be few parishes have expanded upwards of not less than 200 parishes and numerous chaplaincies.
Without much ado,he convoked the first ever synod and as well attracted the status of a Basilica to the former Cathedral.
The old church building was raised to a beautiful edifice without much alteration to the old architecture.
He made tremendous strides in education by erecting or upgrading many schools including those that were abandoned many years ago.
He was instrumental to returning mission schools to their original owners and ensured that the schools were standard and equipped.
This enhanced students performances at local and international competitions.
Archbishop Valerian Okeke erected the massive Family Youth Village at Awka.The Youth Village is second to none in the history of South East.It afforded comfortable,stress free and secure accommodation for University students who eventually graduated in flying colours.
Perhaps the greatest achievement of the Archbishop is his dogged move for erection of the Bishop Shanahan University which is currently in progress.
On the health sector,the Archbishop’s strides are better seen than imagined.He fought relentlessly to upgrade the St Charles Borromeo hospital to a Teaching Hospital and erected another College of Nursing at the Borromeo Hospital,Onitsha in addition to the existing ones at the Waterside hospital,Onitsha.
Many of the other mission hospitals across the Archdiocese have had a tremendous facelift with structures and equipment.
The Archbishop has partnered with foriegn donors and philanthropists to attract many goodies to the Archdiocese.
It is not a secret nor News that the Archbishop has in so many ways brokered peace between political gladiators in the state thus affording peaceful political environment in the state.
During the Covid-19 era,he fed his flock and ensured nobody was left behind during the Covid-19 screening excercise.
Archbishop Valerian Okeke has with his powerful homilies changed the psyche of many in the society wherein he preached severally on the need for gratitude, thanksgiving,excellence,justice,contentment, forgiveness and above all prayerfulness.
Archbishop Valerian Maduka Okeke has endeared himself as a true priest of God.
There’s no iota of doubt that at his 41years of his priesthood,he is abundantly fulfilled in his chosen vocation.
