The metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha, His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Valerian Okeke has charged the seminarians to always imbibe and maintain the culture of excellence in their quest to become not just priests but people with integrity so as to never be taken backward.
The Archbishop made this call when he was on a pastoral visit to All Hallows Seminary Onitsha on Thursday 27th May, 2021. The management, staff, parents and seminarians came out in their numbers to welcome the Archbishop in their school and play a deserved host to the Archbishop who in that mass administered the Sacrament of confirmation on 106 candidates.
Preaching in the mass the Archbishop groomed the seminarians and the faithfuls on the steps to achieve excellence which he listed as follows: Dreams; Break the dreams into small practicable steps;Finding out the area you measured in and pursue it; Spend reasonable time on planning that is planning well; Get those who can help you especially in the areas that needs improvement and distancing yourself from those who can put you down; Practice and persevere;Follow it up with prayers. The prelate said that you work for excellence because excellence cannot come to you.
The seminarians in that mass rendered a resounding chants in honour of the Archbishop who this year celebrated his 40th priestly anniversary. Archbishop Valerian Okeke was visibly excited as the seminarians including the staff and management of the school celebrated the Archbishop in style and with Angelic voices.
Appreciating his guests, the rector Very Rev. Fr. Charles Onwumelu articulated his sentiments of appreciation towards the Archbishop for his love, care and benevolence towards the school and to the seminarians. He praised the Archbishop for his outstanding legacies in the Archdiocese and for his support towards the seminary. Describing him as a good father and shepherd , Fr. Charles Onwumelu prayed for grace, good health and blessings upon the Archbishop so that he will continue to shepherd the flock entrusted to him.
