Emeka Ugwuonye, Harvard trained legal expert and founder of Due Process Advocates (DPA), a human rights advocacy group says, the detained leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu denied Biafra when he pleaded not guilty to the seven count charges slammed against him by president Muhammadu Buhari led administration
Recall that Nnamdi Kanu, who was docked before Justice Binta Nyako, last week pleaded not guilty to the seven count charges after it was read to him in the open court
However, Attorney Ugwuonye said that the embattled IPOB leader for pleading not guilty cannot be compared with late Nelson Mandela who took responsibility after admitting that he masterminded several attacks against the government of South Africa during his trial.
The fiery Attorney said Mandela admittedly took responsibility for all the attacks he masterminded in South Africa but gave his reasons for it unlike Nnamdi Kanu who denied his own completely
He said, “You cannot compare Onyendu Ohamadike with Nelson Mandela. In 1964 during his trial, they asked Mandela if he planned sabotage and attacks against the Government of South Africa.
“He admitted that he did and explained why he did so. But on 21st of October, 2021, they read the charges to Ohamadike: “That you, Nnamdi Kanu, planned to break up Nigeria to form a country to be known as Biafra: Guilty or Not Guilty?”.
“Ohamadike pleaded Not Guilty. In other words, he denied trying to create a country to be called Biafra. He denied it. His plea should have been: “Guilty with explanation”.
