As the effects of COVID-19 lockdown continues to hamper socioeconomic activities in Anambra State, eighty households from Umuezeyim Royal Family in Nnewichi Nnewi, have received succor from the Iwuchukwu family as supervised by Obi George Onyekaba of Nnewichi.
The relief items worth millions of naira, was distributed at Mr. Sam Iwuchukwu’s compound at Nnewichi with smiles on the recipients.
Mr. Iwuchukwu, who spoke through Mr. Chukwudi Onyekaba said that the idea came from the entire Iwuchukwu Family to alleviate the sufferings of the households in Umuezeyim family.
He announced that each household is entitled to ten kg bag of rice and beans, cartons of noodles, three tubers of yam, Sachets of groundnut oil as well as tomato paste to cushion the effects of the economic challenges faced during the lockdown.
Receiving the items, Obi Onyekaba, who appreciated the donors for their magnanimity, pointed out that the Iwuchukwu Family has always shown reasonable concern to the less privileged in the community and prayed God to reward such kindness calling on other well to do citizens to emulate them.
On his part, the Chairman, Okpuno Nnewichi, Chief Obiora Mbonu and the former Chairman, Nzuko Ora Nnewi, Chief Benneth Ngonadi expressed gratitude to the donors, stating that Ndi Umuezeyim will forever remain grateful for the helping hand extended to the kindred and described it as a clear example of brotherly love.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Mrs. Caro Azuka and Mr. Raymond Unachukwu expressed happiness with the Iwuchukwu Family especially Chief Sam Iwuchukwu for laying the foundation of unity among them.
Reacting to the gesture, a former Deputy Chairman Nnewi North Council Area, Mr. John-Harris Mbonu called for pro-active measures in tackling the global crisis.
Our correspondent reports that the distribution exercise was in accordance with the State government directive of hand washing for all recipients, use of sanitizers and social distancing in a bid to guard against corona virus.
