The detained Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has described the killings in the South-East by hoodlums called unknown gunmen as sacrilegious. He stated this when the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, visited him at the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) at the weekend.Prof. Soludo disclosed this in a statement signed by himself.Mazi Kanu said, “I visited Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, on Friday, 13th May 2022 to felicitate with him and also as part of the wider consultations with critical stakeholders in search of lasting peace and security in the South-East.“He was in very high spirits and we had quality and frank discussion in a very convivial atmosphere.“He expressed sadness over what he described as “sacrilegious killings” of innocent persons, kidnappings and all forms of criminalities, including the brutal enforcement of the senseless “sit-at-home” perpetuated by sundry groups claiming to be acting for or on behalf of IPOB.“He assured that if the opportunity arises, he will be glad to personally broadcast to his followers to maintain the peace.“Together, we shall restore peace, security and prosperity in Anambra and the South-East. It is well indeed,” Governor Soludo stated. In a swift reaction, the All Progressives Grand Alliance described Prof. Soludo’s visit to Mazi Kanu as a commendable step to end certain misconceptions about the insecurity in the area. The National Coordinator of APGA Media Warriors’ Forum, Mr. Chinedu Obigwe, who hailed Prof. Soludo’s action, described it as a masterstroke. He said, “If you see someone that has a burning desire to entrench peace and security in his State you will know.“The Governor truly has a burning desire to bring peace and security in Anambra State. His visit to Mazi Kanu at DSS custody is not something that can be taken for granted. It’s something that must be appreciated by Ndi Anambra and Igbos at large.“If he wants to achieve a goal, he will ensure that no stone will be left unturned to achieve that goal. I was so happy to see Governor Soludo’s pics with Mazi Kanu which is in DSS custody. It shows that he feels Nnamdi Kanu’s pain and that he is deeply touched by the insecurity in Anambra State and the South-East at large.”I can say it boldly that with Governor Soludo’s visit to Nnamdi Kanu at DSS custody that he has two things in mind and they are (1) The release of Mazi Kanu from detention (2) putting an end to the insecurity in Anambra State and South-East at large.“Let’s not forget in a hurry that no other South-East Governor was bold enough to identify with Mazi Kanu in this period of his incarceration at DSS custody but Governor Soludo has done that,” the statement stated.
