Mater Amabilis Secondary School Umuoji last week recorded a feat as the college emerged second position in the just concluded National School Enterpreneurship Exhibition and Awards held in Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun state. The school represented by 12 of her students carried designed a project called LITE- UP, an apparatus that generates electricity through the conversation of salt water/ urine, an exhibition that earned them second position out of the many projects secondary schools nationwide that participated in the.The School Manager Rev. Fr. Francis Onwuchulum who spoke to Trinitas Correspondent on the development described the victory as testimony that the school is committed to unmatchless academic and entrepreneurship excellence, adding that the feat is also a sign that the institution is soaring higher.
According to him, the annual Enterprenurship competition is organised by the Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) Nigeria and hosted by former president Olusegun Obasanjo. He revealed that students of Mater Amabilis Umuoji designed a project called “LITE UP” and experimented it during the exhibition by converting salt water to generate electricity. “At the end the of the exhibition, “LITE UP” project by our school was rated as the second best at the national level and that automatically qualifies us as one of the two teams that will represent Nigeria at world level of the Entrepreneurship tournament billed to take place in the Netherlands, in August this year. ” If we win at the world level with this particular LITE UP project, such victory will likely attract us sponsors who will fund the expansion and mass production of the project in order to generate electricity in a larger scale, thereby tackling the problem of epileptic power supply in the country “The Manager further stated that the purpose of the competition is to develop the young students and inculcate in them the spirit of creativity and innovation in order to become postive agents that will revolutionalize our country. Mater Amabilis Umuoji he disclosed, is running holistic education structured around academic excellence and strong moral formation. “We have quality and sound teachers that ensure that academic excellence is maximised. Apart from setting the pace academically, we sufficiently engage the students in extra curricular activities such as music, debate, drama, robotics, programming etc, positing that with these, the students can easily fix themselves in a lucrative skill at graduation. “Without mincing words, parents of our students are lucky to have their wards here, because their children stand to gain a whole lot of things outside academics, skills etc.In a special way, the manager rained accolades on the Chief Shepherd of Onitsha Archdiocese cum proprietor of the school, His Grace Most Rev Valerian M. Okeke, describing him as the brain behind the huge academic prowess Catholic mission schools in the Archdiocese are recording. Describing Archbishop Okeke as game changer in respect of education, Fr Onwuchulum recalled that in the recent times, schools like Regina Pacis Onitsha, St John’s technical college Alor and others have won different world competitions, stating that those victories were possible because Archbishop Okeke has succeeded in revolutionalizing the educational sector within the Archdiocese and beyond.
