The Anambra state coordinator National Youth Service Corp Mr. Aremu Kehinde Wednesday, commended the TC chairman Ihiala local government area of Anambra state Hon . Greg Okafor for handing over a well furnished bungalow to NYSC as quarters for corp members.
The coordinator stated that the chairman through the singular gesture, has demonstrated his commitment in ensuring that corp members serving in his local government secretariat won’t suffer accommodation problem.
He further promised a proper handling of the property, adding that the corp members serving in the state have been trained to comport them selves well in every place they may carry out their primary assignment, adding that there will be no lacuna.
The chairman Hon. Okafor who spoke to press said NYSC is a scheme that brings out youths from their comfort zones to strange places in the country, explaining that accommodation is one of the challenges they face which becomes a factor that propelled the local government into building and furnishing the bungalow for the corpers.
“Our mission for building the house is to ensure they get accommodation. It is a bungalow of four bedrooms. Each one of the rooms is housing at least three sizable beds. In other words, the lodge can accommodate up to fourteen corpers at a time and all facilities needed in a home, such as kitchen, independent electricity source, television with DSTV cable, modern toilet with running water are all available.”
He also pledged to provide more accommodation to corpers, adding that plans for the project is under way. He promised to pay six months DSTV subscription fee for the first corpers to reside there, adding that adequate security will be provided at the compound.
Speaking on level of compliance to Covid19 preventive measures in the local council, the chairman said they have not relented in sensitizing and educating the members of various communities that made up of the LGA.
” We have been guiding them on what majors to take to ensure they stay safe. All the wards chairman are working, sensitizing people. It will take a while before people’s consciousness is captured and our people are gradually adjusting to the new reality.”
