The new chairman of Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Emeka Orji, on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, assumed office after he was appointed by the executive governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, to lead Onitsha South. The ceremony began with a holy Mass celebrated at the local government secretariat. The event was witnessed by the whole staff of the local government who danced and rejoiced for a change of government in the council area.Addressing the staff and guests at the ceremony, the new local government chairman, who was conspicuously elated for his new position, told the crowd that he has come to put things aright in the local government area in line with the aims and objective of the state governor who appointed him. He reminded the workers that he has come to repair all those things that have gone wrong in the local government and urged all of them to join hands with him for the tasks ahead. He assured that he would not tolerate indolent workers. All the members of the new local government transition committee and dignitaries from different walks of life across both Onitsha South LGA and the state attended the ceremony, including the former councillor of the area, Hon. Cosmos Iwugo, and the current, Mr. Thaddeus Enyioha. The ceremony was perfectly coordinated by a known APGA chieftain in the council area, Mr. Ndubisi Okereke. Speaking to newsmen at the occasion, the former chairman of Onitsha South LGA, Barrister Ugochukwu Ezeani, expressed satisfaction with the appointment of Chief Emeka Orji as the new Onitsha South local government authority.
