The President of Okpoko Community development Union, Hon. Francis Enemuo says unlike before Okpoko is relatively peaceful and crime-free within few months he assumed the leadership of the Community. He attributed the present situation to the security efforts of the divisional Police Officer incharge of Okpoko Police headquarters, Mr.Ugochukwu Ugbo and the members of the Anambra state community vigilantes in the area.
Speaking to newsmen in an exclusive interview in his office at Okpoko, Mr. Enemuo revealed that the D.P.O in charge of the Okpoko Police division, Mr. Ugbo has no rival among his contemporaries in the Police headquarter because he often join his vigilantes in patrolling the nooks and crannies of the community and had in a number of occasions arrested suspected criminals.
He also disclosed that his administration has in no small measure whittled down the menace of some miscreants in Okpoko who have been in the habit of forcefully extorting money from the residents embarking in building projects and other forms of illegal levy imposed on business dealers in Okpoko. Mr. Enemuo lamented the attitude of some youths in the area who are criminally terrorising the residents, including the widows and the vulnerable doing business in Okpoko.
The community leader said he would not relent in solving such criminal behaviour for the welfare of the people. In his words, “l would not give up the fight even it means the only achievement for which his administration will be known for”. On the issue of bad roads bedevilling the inhabitants of the community, chief Enemuo appealed to the Anambra state government under Governor Willie Obiano to come to their aid for access roads and other facilities. Concerning the raging leadership tussle among the youths, he called on those fanning the embers of conflicts in Okpoko to sheath their sword as no one person has the monopoly of leadership .
He however hinted that his leadership has begun the work of sand-filìng some of the dilapidated roads in Okpoko to make them motorable and passable by pedestrians. He condemned those speaking against his administration in Okpoko as persons wanting to hijack the leadership of the Community for their own pockets.
