The Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha,Most Reverend Valerian Okeke has urged catholic Men to “stand up and assert” their rights if the society must be a just and fair place for others.
The Archbishop spoke through the Onitsha Archdiocesan Director of Social Communications,Rev Fr (Dr)George Adimike while delivering a sermon during a mass celebrated for members of the Onitsha Archdiocesan CMO to mark the end of “Year of St Joseph” at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity,Onitsha.
According to the Archbishop,things started going the wrong in the society when Catholic Men took nonchalant stand on moral issues and resorted to pursuit of money while moral values took flight,giving way for crimes and criminalities.
He pointed out that the issue of gender parity with women is driving men out of many important positions such that men should work hard not to relinquish their responsibilities to women.
Family responsibility he said,are sacrosanct and should be done with a lot of sacrifice.
He called on Catholic Men to emulate their patron saint,the father of Jesus Christ,St Joseph who he described as an epitome of humility, hardwork and dignity of labour.
Addressing members of the CMO at the Shanahan Complex,Chaplain of the CMO, Archdiocese of Onitsha,Rev Fr Sampson Ogbuebune,underscored importance of fathers in the society adding that no society can flourish without good fathers.
While stressing the importance of fathers in the church, Ogbuebune said,”if you want to attack the church,attack the fatherhood.
Fr Ogbuebune enjoined fathers to maintain the dignity of labour and discharge their family responsibilities with the fear of God.
In his remarks,the President General of CMO,Archdiocese of Onitsha,Hon Sir Evaristus Uba commended the Archbishop on his efforts to redirect affairs of the CMO for a much better focus.
While also commending the CMO Chaplain for encouraging the fathers,he appealed to the members to always take interest in affairs of the organisation,pay their dues regularly and attend meetings.
In his contribution,the Organising Secretary of CMO, Archdiocese of Onitsha,Comrade Ikechukwu Onyekwere,expressed delight that the CMO was taking a new turn for the better under the new administration.
In an interview,the immediate past President General of CMO,Sir Ifeanyi Nnajiaku,expressed satisfaction that the CMO was on a steady move such that consciousness among the members was
