The Spiritually Director of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke Anambra State, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, aka Fr. Ebube Muonso on Friday said the Wednesday’s clash between the Police and Youths in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of the State would have claimed more lives if not for his quick intervention. The Police patrol team enforcing lockdown order in the State had allegedly shot dead a 20-year old man at New Tyre Market and another youth who died at the hospital, resulting to protests by the youths.
The Police Spokesperson, Mr. Haruna Mohammed (SP), had in a statement, dismissed the reports, alleging that the youths attacked the police patrol team unprovoked with substance suspected to be acid.
The PPRO further alleged that some miscreants tried to snatch some rifles from the operatives, adding that discreet investigation was on into the immediate and remote causes of the incident.
Rev. Fr. Obimma, however, said he ran into the protesting youths on their way to set ablaze the Ogidi police station and pleaded they should discontinue their journey as it was a dangerous venture.
Said the Cleric: “I was going to my School in Obosi when I ran into heavy police and mobile police crack team along the road near Ogidi Area Command.
“The Police was battle ready to defend the Ogidi Police Station at all cost even if it warrants opening fire on the protesters.
He said the Area commander had revealed to him the youths’ plan to burn the Police Station, pleading he intervened.
Rev. Fr. Obimma added, “Let me tell you, we had the highest miracle in Anambra that Wednesday because the hundreds of youths I saw would have put the State on fire. How many would police kill before they get closer to them? It would have been bloody but God used me to perform the miracle.
“I bumped into the protesting youths. I parked in the middle of the road and waved at them. They all knelt down and I prayed for them and appealed to them to go back because more lives would be lost if they refused.
“I started conscientizing them on the danger ahead and that the policeman who shot and killed those youths will not go unpunished.
“To the glory of God, they listened to me and behaved as if they were remote controlled. God intervened because it was not going to be only burning down Ogidi Police Station, many lives would be lost and there would be turmoil in Anambra State that day.”
