At exactly 11:45 PM today,10th August 2020,the Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha,Most Rev Valerian Okeke lowered the remains of the late former Parish Priest of St John the Baptist Catholic Church,Rev Fr David Ojukwu into mother earth at the Onitsha Archdiocesan cemetry,Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha, thus ending his earthly journey as the Lord pleases.
Archbishop Valerian Okeke in a concelebrated funeral mass featuring the Auxiliary Bishop of Onitsha,Most Rev Denis Isizoh and dozens of other priests in a brief remark at the beginning of the mass,expressed gratitude to God for the gift of Rev Fr David Ojukwu and prayed that God receives his soul in His kingdom.
He also prayed for divine consolation for the family and all those affected by Fr David’s death.
In his homily, Rev Fr Justin Ileka listed some of the positive attributes of the late Fr Ojukwu which included standing for the truth always and maintenance culture in his former Parish.
In his remarks,Chancellor of the Archdiocese Rev Fr Dr Prudentius Aroh expressed gratitude to Archbishop Valerian for always supporting and identifying with priests of the Archdiocese whenever the need arose.
He also thanked Monsignor Greg Adibe for the professional way he handles funeral of priests in the Archdiocese.
Others who the Chancellor acknowledged their contributions include classmates of the late Fr David,members of Ojukwu family,management of Borromeo hospital Onitsha,a Hungarian medical doctor who assisted in treating Fr Ojukwu, Dr Reka Fodor and classmates of the deceased.
