Sequel to the incoming administration led by Prof Chukwuma Soludo readiness to include more women in governance, the Commissioner for Basic Education Anambra state, Prof Kate Omenugha last Sunday charged Anambra women to pick the expression form as provided by the incoming administration.
According to the Commissioner, the expression form is a means through which the incoming administration can identify and select women who were endowed with different capacities and knowledge that will be useful in developing the state.
Her words : ‘Every body has high hopes because of incoming administration. We are looking forward to greater Anambra. We are looking forward to consolidating on what previous administrations especially what Governor Willie Obiano has done. By special grace of God, I am part of Obiano’s administration and we have done relatively well.
“In the current administration, women were represented in the government but not as much as we hoped. Women now occupy sensitive positions in governance. I was made the Commissioner for education for eight years. We have a woman attorney general and others as special advisers.
But that notwistanding, We want more women representation and we are hoping for better women representation. We are hoping that Prof Soludo will recognize women more and place them in strategic places/ positions, make the women voice to count. We are currently doing talent hunt and it is very important that our women fill the expression of interest form. Don’t stay behind and later begin to complain that women are not represented. If the incoming administration is requesting women to indicate their interest, our women should respond to that. Don’t shy away from it. The first step is to indicate interest and that will help the incoming governor to increase women participation in his administration”.
Prof Omenugha disclosed that current adminisation has succeeded in tranforming the state educational sector. ” We brought passion and skills into education and we have reposed confidence in our children to the extent that they can compete with their mates all over the world through the various competitions they have participated. Our children can now go out to look for Competitions. They are no longer afraid and they don’t shy away. We brought discipline and quality in education as Chief Willie Obiano says we should give him education that has quality and value based. I am living happier. Now I have transformational leaders as teachers, something nobody can take away from us.”
