Catechist Peter Ezeh, the incumbent President of the Onitsha Archdiocesan Catechists Association is very significant in the history of St Peter the Apostle Parish Ugwuagba Obosi.
He started his stewardship as a Catechist when the location was a mere outstation.
That long journey has rolled into 38 good years hence the celebration of Peter Ezeh’s 38th anniversary on 5th December 2021.
Little wonder, the Parish Priest in charge, Very Rev Fr Celestine Aniofor and the entire parishioners, friends and well wishers from far and near, rolled out the drums and red carpet to honour a servant whose commitment in service endeared him to all.
It was also a day the parishioners set aside to do a fund raising for the proposed erection of a bungalow for the beloved Catechist.
Catechist Ezeh has been without a personal house at his home town where he would retire after his meritorious service to the parish.
During the 10am mass when the celebration took place in honour of Catechist Ezeh, the parish priest made him sit in front of the altar where parishioners lined up in their numbers to appreciate him. Various gifts in cash and other items were delivered to him to show him love.
While sitting before the congregants,Catechist Peter Ezeh had humility written all over him.He was subdued in appreciation and gratitude to the parish priest and the entire parishioners.
Earlier while delivering a homily, the Parish Priest Rev Fr Celestine Aniofor expressed gratitude to God for the gift of Catechist Peter Ezeh.
He described Catechist Ezeh as a peaceful and quiet man whom he had never seen exhibiting anger while discharging his duties, pointing out that Catechist Ezeh posseses the quality of a heavenly candidate.
“The Catechist is a gift to this parish.I want to thank him for all his good works in the parish and we are really prepared to celebrate him today”,fr Aniofor said.
Fr Aniofor told the congregants that erection of a building for the Catechist was a task the parish was determined to do.According to him,it was not the first time this kind of thing was done in the history of the church.
He appealed to kind spirited people to donate generously towards the building project whether as a parishioner or from outside.
Catechist Ezeh who hails from Olo in Enugu State while responding, thanked the parish priest and the parishioners for celebrating him saying that he was overwhelmed with joy with members of his family.
Part of the event was special prayers and blessings to Catechist Ezeh and members of his family.
Meanwhile, there was a baby boom at the mass when 26 babies were given sacrament of baptism.
Joyous couples many of whom came for thanksgiving with fat rams and other gifts danced joyously to the altar to present their gifts of thanksgiving for the gift of children from God.
It was indeed a special Sunday at the St Peter the Apostle Parish Ugwuagba Obosi.
In another development,it was a terrible ugly sight observing that all road networks at Ugwuagba Obosi were nothing to write home about.
It was suicidal driving on the roads now turned to ditches and death traps.
With comparative revenue generated from taxes and levies in the heavily populated markets in the area, there is no justification that roads in Ugwuagba would continue to remain in such a sorry sight.
