Tension has gripped the people of Adazi-Nnukwu and Adazienu communities in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, following reported index case of Coronavirus in the area. It would be recalled that Governor Willie Obiano in a State broadcast over the weekend announced the first case of coronavirus in the State which resulted in the extension of the lockdown to two more weeks.
The victim had returned from the United Kingdom to Adazienu and was treated at the St Joseph’s Hospital Adazinukwu before he was referred to Regina Ceili Hospital Awka where it was confirmed that he has been infected by the virus.
Also family members and medical personnels who had attended to him before now are to go on self-isolation in order to find out if they have been infected.
When our correspondent visited the two hospitals, patients and health workers were apprehensive that the virus may infect those who came in contact with the patient while relatives of patients at the two hospitals are insisting that their sick relatives should be discharged immediately.
At the patient’s home town, family members could not be found as according to shop owner in the area, they have taken flight for fear of being associated with the coronavirus.
Confirming this development, the Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Ebele Ego said that the COVID-19 medical team has commenced investigations on the date the patient was treated and those that treated him.
“Even the family members and those he had contact with before the confirmation would also be checked and placed on self-isolation for the mandatory two weeks.” she said.
The patient was said to have refused to disclose his travel history to the medical officials of St Joseph’s Hospital Adazi- Nnukwu and demanded that he should be discharged while he was being treated for heart related disease following his high fever.
